Beatfreeks Summer Academies: Day 3

Yesterday was DAY 3 of the Beatfreeks Academies and we can’t wait till Friday to showcase what we have been working on.

Dance
Today the dance group got to perfect and add more steps into the dance routines they had learnt at the start of the week. They were joined by members of the Saintz dance crew who helped out on the teaching of the routine.
They made sure they went through the steps of the dance moves they learnt so the new members of the group could learn them, as through the week they have been getting new members joining in on their lessons.
Today they focused also on getting into character when performing, as it will bring them out their shells when on stage. This is a tip that can be used in any form of creative arts that has to be showcased to a group of people, as nerves can always get the best of us.
To be able to watch their amazing performance, don’t forget to buy tickets to STAMP! in which the work that has been carried out throughout this week will be showcased there.

Poetry
When speaking with the poetry group, they explained to me about how they have been working on their poems and collaborating with each other. They mentioned how it was hard having to combine the poems they had created in order to make an overall piece that portrayed what they all felt about in the topic of WHO AM I?

They spoke about how each of them had different themes, different feelings but when mixed together to make their collaboration piece they all felt the same. Even with their different cultures and beliefs, they all felt as if they had something in common and that they could relate to what each other mentioned on their poem.

The said how having Jaden and Amerah as their facilitators had been an amazing experience. They said that they loved how they pushed them to do work and the artistic freedom that they got when working with them.

Beatfreeks Summer Academies: Day 1!

Monday was the first day of the Beatfreeks Academies and for a first day, it was amazing.
Young people from the age of 11 to 25 get to work on Music, Dance and Poetry for a week and then get to showcase what the have learnt throughout the week in STAMP! which will take place on Friday 30th August at 7pm.

The day went on perfectly as they all focused on showing their talents
The Poetry group created spoken word pieces in which they explained in varied methods who they all thought they were and what they could and couldn’t do that defined who they were and how it made them feel.
The dancer got to learn the moves to a contemporary and hip hop piece and they learnt how to perform without fear.
The musicians had to come up with a jingle for Beatfreeks. They were separated into groups in which they had a variety of musical talents and joined up to create a short piece of music.

The work that they had all created through the day was then showcased in the final jam session.

You can check out Aysha's vlog post on how the day went on:
